Spread spectrum-based coordination design for spectrum-agile wireless ad hoc networks
نویسنده
چکیده
Cognitive radios (CRs) have been proposed to improve spectrum utilization by enabling opportunistic and dynamic spectrum access for unlicensed users. To enable efficient CR communications, a reliable control channel (CC) for exchanging control information is needed. In this paper, a direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS)-based underlay CC design for distributed coordination in CR networks (CRNs) is proposed. The proposed design provides immunity to licensed primary radio (PR) interference (reliable communication), low transmission power (PR users’ protection) and predefined-required transmission rate and range (network connectivity). The Proposed design ensures that both narrow-band data and wide-band control transmissions can be simultaneously proceeded while protecting the performance of PR users. To ensure reliable CR control communications, a closed-form expression is derived for the minimum required transmission power for control packet transmissions such that required transmission range and rate are achieved. Based on the derived expression, the maximum allowable transmission power for CR data transmissions is computed such that an enforced power mask constrain over the PR channels is not violated. Simulation results indicate that the proposed CC design enables efficient CR communications without relying on the existence of a dedicated CC. & 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Clique-based randomized multiple access for energy-efficient wireless ad hoc networks
A fundamental tradeoff in MAC protocol design for wireless ad hoc networks is between proactive and reactive coordination, where the latter is used to resolve access conflicts whose severity is determined by the former. In this paper, we describe Clique-Based RandomizedMultiple Access (CRMA), a distributed MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc network applications. Of the many objectives in MAC desi...
متن کاملAd Hoc Network Nodes Scheduling using DS and FH CDMA
Nowadays most communication networks like GSM, WLan or WiMAX are based on pre-existing infrastructure. These infrastructures are complicated, costly and difficult to deploy in very short time. Whereas Wireless Ad Hoc Networks are infrastructure-free self organizing networks which consist of cooperating nodes. These networks are highly desirable for various emerging applications for military and...
متن کاملEvaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
